Arthur Miller’s play “The Crucible” is about the Salem witch trials in 1962, where puritan girls were accusing innocent men and women in Salem of witchery. This led to the execution of twenty-one people and jailing of hundred-fifty people. The people of Salem, Massachusetts were of Puritan faith, which stressed the biblical teaching that witches were real and deadly. Characters in author Miller’s play “The Crucible” shows the controversy in Salem during the witch trails of 1962. Reverend John Hale is summoned in Act I of “The Crucible”. He is supposed to be one of the best witch spotters that there ever was. Reverend Hale was summoned because Reverend Paris daughter Betty wouldn't wake up after, Betty and Abigail (Paris niece) with a bunch of the other village young girls was caught dancing in the woods. Betty didn't know that her faking not being able to wake up would send twenty-one people to their deaths. Reverend Hale knew that all of the girls were pretending to be witched. …show more content…
Abigail drunk chicken blood in Act I to kill Elizabeth Proctor because Abigail was in love with John Proctor after his affair with Abigail. She was the one who would start the actions such as mocking Mary Warren in court, she was the first to run out of the court, she stuck the needle into her stomach and blamed Elizabeth saying that Goody Proctor sent her spirit out to attach her.
