The first similarity is the symbolism in both of the paintings. Both paintings symbolize the tragedies of war and death. The authors are trying to show people the devastating disasters of war and how senseless it is. The authors are trying to convey that innocent people should not lose their lives by war they are not involved in. In Guernica, no weapons beside a broken sword are present, allowing the viewer to assume that the people were innocent.
