After reading excerpts from Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, write an essay that compares Brutus’ speech with Marc Antony’s speech and argues the effectiveness of the rhetorical devices (ethos, pathos, logos) used in each. Be sure to support your position with evidence from the texts. In Julius Caesar, Julius was assassinated by conspirators because people were afraid of letting Caesar have too much power because he would become evil (power go to his head). Julius Caesar was an important figure in Roman history because he help to bring an end of Roman Republic, which was never ruled by one person. . Brutus’s speech was to calm and explained why he had to die. Afterwards Antony was aloud to have a word but not aloud to speak poorly about Caesar; made the crowd angry. Marc Anthony enjoys life. Antony is an extrovert and speaks freely he was a friend. He expects them to be guided by their emotions. He appeals to the feelings of the people and connects to them more than Brutus could. He loved Julius and wanted Revenge. He reads Caesar's will and the people found out that he left a large portion of land to them. Antony's strong about his beliefs and emotions which rubs off on the people. In conclusion, Antony's speech was more effective, because he went after Brutus showing them Caesar really did care about his people, he even refused to accept the crown. He was able to have the last word for the people. He is a better judge of character . Anthony explains that Brutus was the only one who had not killed caesar because of envy and personal grievance. Brutus's speech was weak in emotion but sparked curiosity in his death, which then was able to gain their support. Thank
