Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (born in 1983) is a politician, economist and the Liberian president. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was Africa's first ever elected female head of state. A year before Ellen was elected as the president of Liberia, she won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 for her nonviolent struggle for justice, women's rights and for women's rights to have full participation in peace-building work. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf herself and with the government have made many achievements that have directly affected Liberia. Achievements that Ellen has done is the following: she bought running electricity and water to most of the parts in Monrovia, she gained final aid for Liberia, she increased salaries, wages, pension, she has launched plans to fight corruption in the Liberian government, she has enforced a free …show more content…
Ellen Johnson Sirleaf through her work she has shown passionate commitment to hard work, helping women get equal rights, and the importance of education to provide a better future for her country and its people. Not only this, Ellen has built very strong relations with the general community and regional partners, allowing investment of over 16 billion USD dollars in Liberia's agriculture, mining, forestry and hydrocarbon sectors to provide jobs for her people. Also, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has also invested over 5 million dollars of resources to rebuild things such as, markets, schools, clinics, etc. After a long time of fighting for freedom and Justice in Liberia, Ellen finally got The Nobel Peace Prize which she shared it with two other people. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf´s achievements should already be a wake up call for the women in Africa who believe or think that gender is the barriers to achieving the full potential and dreams.
