Death of a Salesman. Death of a Salesman raises many issues, like wanting to be well-liked, but also faces other issues. Knowingly speaking, Arthur Miller favorited to modernized the American dream. He developed a character that has loss his identity yet has an idea of the American dream. Miller develops that he believes that living the American dream is that the society should be well liked and successful. He described Willy Loman being depressed, losing who he was, and losing the idea of the American Dream. He believed his sons could be living the American Dream, but his downfall, made them not well-like him. His son Happy is named Happy, but theatrically he is happy. He is successfully in his career as a clerk. Willy sees him as well-liked, which is true in his beliefs. Being successful in Willy’s eyes, means you are well liked. Happy is also a woman chaser and seeks pleasure. Biff, on the other hand, is having trouble. He’s not as successful. Biff is identical to Willy; he’s trying to find himself. He went nowhere after he graduated. He’s frustrated that Willy is a dreamer. Maybe he’s frustrated that his father sees him successful, but he does not see what he sees in himself. Although his sons love him, they do worry about him and towards the end they could not believe their own father had an affair on their mother. The only one who loved him unconditionally was his wife, Linda. She was fearful, but no matter his failures, she was there for him and respected him. Going back to Willy being a dreamer, he was dreaming about how well of a salesman he could be, at Dave Singleman’s funeral. This interprets that Willy is self-centered about himself. Instead of mourning at a funeral, he was dreaming of being the best salesman as he can be, after seeing this, you can understand why Biff is frustrated at him. The dream did not become reality. Willy turns out to be the worst salesman ever, he can’t sale a thing. He relies on his own lies about his life to make him forget about how disappointing his life is. His depression begins when he realizes he is not Dave Singleman and nowhere near of being like him. His life will never be like Dave’s. The only thing he is good at is his dreaming and fixing up the house. He’s not built on traveling from town to town to try on selling items to people that he has never met before and will never meet again. Sadly, Willy dies by living
