What would you do if you had to choose between killing your friend or possibly being killed by others? This is what Brutus and Cassius had to choose in the play “Julius Caesar“ written by William Shakespeare in 1599. The genre of the play is a tragedy and reveals of an evil plot to kill the honorable Caesar. In this paper Brutus and Cassius, who are both conspirators, will be compared to each other and examined to find out which one was more honorable and noble than the other.

His wife, Calpurnia, urges him not to go because of a terrible dream she had last night in which Caesar was killed. Decius, one of the conspirators, explains to Caesar that the dream was misinterpreted and that he would not perish today but would live a long life as an honorable tribune. Caesar enters the senate and is promptly stabbed and killed by the conspirators. Before he dies, however, Caesar says “and you too Brutus? Then die Caesar!” They all bathe in Caesar’s blood. Antony is devastated to hear of Caesar’s death and pretends to honor the conspirators. Antony asks Brutus if he can speak at Caesar’s funeral. Mark Antony persuades all the townsfolk to turn on Cassius and Brutus with his powerful speech. The townsfolk even rampage through the city burning houses and killing tribunes. The mob surprisingly killed Casca the poet whom they mistook for Casca the conspirator. Cassius and Brutus decide to flee and raise up an army to fight back.
In the battles Cassius and Brutus fight poorly and, like a fish attempting to live without water, eventually they both give up and kill themselves. Brutus believed committing suicide was the most honorable way to die. Antony finds their bodies and tells his men that the war is over.
