In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus is extremely tenderhearted to Jem and Scout. Atticus shows this by reading to Jem and Scout towards the end of the book. Scout realizes how kind Atticus is throughout the book. There are certain scenes in the book that show how Atticus is so tenderhearted towards his children. For example, at the end of the book it proves that Atticus is pleasant to his children while Jem is lying in bed injured. Scout walks in and sees her dad sitting in the chair reading a book Atticus says to scout “The Gray Ghost” (Lee 375). As she sees this she realizes how caring Atticus is. This shows that Atticus is interested and is thoughtful towards Jem. Atticus additionally teaches people about life lessons.
