How Is Atticus Finch Brave

In 1935, whites and blacks were separated. When a black man is charged, a white lawyer and his family must show courage to defend him. The main characters, Atticus, Scout, and Jem, must stay strong and courageous to survive this defense. Atticus is a strong and courageous character. First and foremost, he is the attorney to an African American in a racist time period. Much courage is shown by him in accepting the case and doing the job right. Furthermore, he stays outside the jail the night before the trial to protect Tom Robinson from a lynching. In most cases, he would have been killed. Moreover, he also remains unwilling to fight with Bob Ewell, even after he threatens him and spits in his face. This shows he respected himself and his children’s fate enough to not fight or take note of these threats. First and foremost, when she is called names she wants to fight but doesn’t to not give in to the mockery. She does not like the threats and tone, but avoids it to the best of her ability. Furthermore, she contests racism and respects the wish of her daddy and will not be caught using evil, racist language. This proves her views are different from others in the community. This small child also protects Tom Robinson by speaking to Mr. Cunningham, a leader of the group. She does not realize this, but she showed a true act of bravery in this dispute.
