Alexander the Great? More like Alexander the Brute.
Alexander the Great is a villain because he was power hungry and selfish.
Alexander the Great was a power hungry ruler, this made him a villain. All he wanted to do was conquer. According to Alexander the Great Part One, "When he returned at age sixteen he discovered that his father remarried. Worse a new son was born, threatening his rule” (7:14). Alexander wanted to have the power of being king so badly that he was going to be wary of a newborn baby. He was willing to hate or possibly kill anyone to get the throne, even his baby half brother. In fact later on Alexander’s mother, Olympia, killed his half brother, giving Alexander all the power. To him the most important thing was power and reward, and nothing else. He only wanted what was best for himself and not for his people. In fact even though he “fought” with his soldiers, Alexander only really wanted to protect himself. According to Alexander The Not So Great, “He convinced his soldiers to march thousands of miles in harsh conditions, risking their lives in one military campaign after another for the sake of military glory. Yet he never developed a successor” (Maxwell, 6). This displays how Alexander only wanted to obtain his goals, never actually thinking about his men or his people. He only cared about himself and the glory, not about his people and his soldiers. In fact Alexander denied many things that his people truly needed. According to Alexander The Not So Great, “For the good of his people, Alexander needed an adult successor, and he both refused to provide one, and killed off any man who could be seen as one” (Maxwell, 8).
