The crucible is a play that was written in 1953 by Arthur Miller. The main concept of The Crucible is to show people how the witch hunts and witch trials were performed in the late 1600’s in Salem, Massachusetts. One character is introduced very early into the play. This character also shows up and/or is mentation in all four acts of the pay this character is no other than Abigail Williams. Cousin to Betty Parris and niece to Reverend Parris. In the first act of the play we are introduced to Abigail who is a young woman of seventeen, and is also an orphan. In the very beginning Abigail seemed like a normal girl who cared about her cousin Betty who was believed to be involved in some type of witchcraft in the nearby forest. The times she is talked about are very important to her as a Character and how this act plays out. The action that sticks out the most is the poppet or doll that Mary Warren gave to Elizabeth Proctor. This poppet was made by Mary in the court, and when Ezekiel Cheever came to the Proctor house to take Elizabeth to jail for witchcraft. The one person to accuse her was Abigail Williams after she was stabbed by a needle 2 inches into her stomach. This is why Cheever asked if goody Proctor owned any poppets so he could check them for anything weird like a needle. The one poppet she owned was the one Mary gave her the same day. When looking at the doll, Cheever dugout a needle from inside the poppet causing everyone to believe that Goody Proctor used witchcraft to harm Abby with it. Mary Warren does confess that it was her poppet and that Abby was sitting next to her the entire time she was making the poppet. This means Abby must have seen Mary making the poppet, and planed the entire thing. Proving further that Abby did change how this act plays
