How Is Abigail Presented In The Crucible

In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, a lot of characters and themes have been introduced. One particular character is, a sneaky and deceiving young girl, Abigail. To be such a young girl, she acts a lot older than she really is. She chases after John Proctor, who is obviously much older than her and is already married. She talks about how she waits for him every night, and flirts with John. This was the biggest problem; she was the cause of all of the mayhem in the town. She soon started to do everything she could to have John Proctor. The “witchcraft”, the deceit, and evil threats of Abigail lead to chaos among the members of the community. She lies in order to get her way and to take control, and she doesn’t care who it affects. When first confronted she says, “I never sold myself,” but as soon as Tituba walks in she says, “She made me do it!”. Tituba would have no chance because she is a slave. Everyone would believe Abigail over Tituba, and Abigail knew it. Barely anything that came out of Abigail’s mouth was the truth, except for her insane love for John Proctor. She lies about not doing anything in the woods, but she even covered up that lie with another. In the courtroom, she makes all of the girls fake like Mary Warren was the Devil. There was so much deceit all happening at once. It’s crazy to think a young girl was able to get away with so much even though majority knew she was lying. Abigail is the true definition of lies and
