How Iron Affects The Body

Iron is popularly known for its role in helping the body make hemoglobin, where it facilitates the active transport of oxygen throughout the body. However, the function of this micro nutrient is not limited to its function in the red blood cell; it is also an important part of different enzymes as well and initiates various essential biological processes in our body.
Iron plays an important role in changing blood sugar into a form of energy for the body. Iron aids in immune system health and strengthens cognitive function. Healthy skin, hair and nails, all require adequate iron levels (ab).
An inadequate level of iron in the body could result in a medical condition called anemia which is characterized by a lack of red blood cells in the body.
