Land degradation is a big factor of why human beings won’t be able to remain on Earth forever. The US Global change research program claims that land is one of the tools humans use to sustain life. David Pimentel stated in his journal article, …show more content…
In North America, agriculture has been responsible for about 66% of the soil lost, while in Africa, overgrazing is responsible for about half of the soil degradation.” (Pimentel) The patterns of land degradation vary by location. In America, farming is the reason for most of the land lost; In Africa, the fact that the animals overgraze is the reason for most of the land lost. In other words, Land degradation exists all over the world, but not all of the land is degraded for the same reasons. The only difference is that one region may deplete faster than the others, but they’re all depleting; which means we’ll have no more usable land, and we can’t grow food without usable …show more content…
Previously stated, water is a ubiquitous pathway to illness, the same thing applies with air (Developed country). In Pimentel’s “Will limits of the earth’s resources control human numbers?" managing the quality of air and water can be quite difficult in an industrial nation. For example, “Pesticides, fertilizers, and soil sediments pollute water resources when they accompany eroded soil into a body of water. In addition, industries all over the world often dump untreated toxic chemicals into rivers and lakes” (Pimentel) many things contribute to water pollution, such as pesticides, and fertilizers. The main factor that contributes to water pollution is the waste that industries dump into bodies of water, not thinking of the consequences. Air pollution, whether it is indoors or out, can affect the human’s respiratory system. Breathing in those harmful fumes has caused over 20 million people over the world to have trouble breathing as stated by Louis Gerdes in Humanity’s Future. If the pollution gets worse, health problems, especially breathing will
