In Rebecca Alber’s article How Important is Teaching Literacy in All Content Areas? She suggest having a high interest classroom library for students. The students in my small group had never looked at the books in that category. If it was labeled ‘money’ that might have peak their interest. The Daily 5 library gives the students the opportunity to select books that interest them. Their reading stamina continues to increase during reading class. The lesson I created and implemented was for my 2nd grade math tier class. These students meet for approximately 35 minutes five days a week. I had prepared the book before class by …show more content…
The reading assessment strategy I chose was observation through Think Alouds. The reason I picked this strategy was to help by students develop their comprehension when reading and to build background knowledge of how money is used in the real world. On Monday, September 16th, 2016, I administered a reading survey assessment to a 7th-grade ESL class at Bateman Elementary around 10 AM. The whole group of students, twenty-one total, participated in this assessment. Why did you choose this survey or inventory? I chose the Lisa Frase Reading Survey because of its simplicity and readability. Even informal assessments can generate ill feelings from students, especially those who might feel interrogated or judged for how much time they spend reading, or what they may find difficult about reading.…

    1. “One of the most important and often ignored aspects of reading assessment is the affective domain—that is, interest, attitude, and motivational factors related to reading success” (Flynt & Cooter, 2014, p. 31). The interest inventory gives the examiner access to information that can not be gleaned through a formal cognitive assessment. An interest inventory gathers information about “students’ background knowledge, interests, and motivations as related to reading” (Flynt & Cooter, 2014, p. 31). It also provides information relating to the students habits at home, background knowledge, and vocabulary understanding.…

During Daily Five, the students will be asked to make an inferce as they read. This form of assessment will help me recognize the students that have a true understanding of this skill and are able to use the skill independently. I plan to use the results of this assessment to tailor my future lesson. If I notice during the turn and talk that not a lot of students understand the skill, I know that I will need to continue modeling my thinking when making an inference.…

Evidence Based Practice Teaching Assignment - Part I The Think-Pair-Share strategy is designed to differentiate instruction by providing students time and structure for thinking on a given topic, enabling them to formulate individual ideas and share these ideas with a peer (readwritethink.org). This learning strategy promotes classroom participation by encouraging students to share answers and contribute ideas during class discussions, rather than asking a question and choosing one student to share ideas or answers. In addition, this strategy provides an opportunity for all students to share their thinking with at least one other student. The opportunity of sharing ideas and answers increases students sense of involvement in classroom learning.…
