Journal Entry #1

How do you see yourself as a writer? I see myself as an aspiring professional journalist who wants to write every day. I understand I need to improve on some writing skills, but that’s why I try to practice every day.

What would you think are your strengths as a writer? (spend the most time here, please.). I feel like I talk more through my writing, so I believe one of my strengths is being able to express myself through writing and giving a lot of detail in one of my writing pieces.
What would you say are your weaknesses? Admittedly, I believe one of my weaknesses in writing is writing about a topic that I am not interested in. I have a habit of losing focus a lot when I try to write about something that I am not interested

I researched every day for good schools that would provide me with an excellent education for my future.
Why did you set that goal?
Honestly, I did not set a lot of personal goals in the past because I felt like I would never achieve them anyway. After my pap passed away, I realized that I needed to set goals, grow up, and improve my life.

How did you work toward it?
Every goal you work toward is tough, but accomplishing a tough goal makes you a better person. I found a school that had a major I was interested in studying, then I applied to that school. Next, my mom and I struggled with the financial aid process, but eventually we got it straightened out.
Were you successful? Why or why not?
I accomplished my goal of attending college because I never gave up on working toward my dream goal. I hit some bumps on the road to my goal, but I drove over them and now I am in college.

What would you do differently if you could do it over?
If I could go back in time I would have started college right after high school, so I would be done with college by now. Honestly, it makes me mad that I did not start college right after high school, but I can’t change the past, I can only focus on the

    Mike Bunn Argument Essay

After reading Mike Bunn’s “How to Read Like a Writer,” I revisited my directed self-placement essay while asking myself the many questions Bunn recommends to ask oneself when “reading like a writer.” In doing so, I was able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses I possess as a writer, and therefore know where I need to grow the most as a writer. One of my greatest strengths as a writer is knowing my audience and composing my writing accordingly. I am aware that when my audience is a teacher who will be reading and grading plenty of the same essays to include original ideas and arguments; it gets boring reading the same type of paper and ideas over and over. Along with my well thought out ideas and arguments, I also credit myself with the ability of using appropriate evidence from credible sources that support my claims.…

I can relate to Jeffrey Gallet’s story and am not surprised by the lack in resources, time school staff utilized to actually work with him on a particular concept(s) that he struggled with, and the verbal abuse that he received, due to the learning disability(ies) that he possessed. I was inspired by his story. It moved me so much so that I desire to share my grade school story with the class. I did not have a learning disability that I knew of, but I did have a lot going on outside of the four walls of the classrooms that I sat in. This made it difficult for me to stay focused on the concepts being taught within my classes.…

I certainly will strive to keep focused on the topic and to write as if it comes naturally to me so that I can write papers without worrying about too many things.
