Reflection On English 090

Voltaire wrote a quote saying, “The more I read, the more I acquire, the more certain I am that I know nothing.” This quote relates to me because during this past semester I feel as though I didn’t acquire any new skills in the class. Looking back at this semester I didn’t learn anything but instead I felt that I was relearning things, such as locating information, formatting a paper and organizing details.
One of the skills I relearned was locating information. In composition and research, we had to write multiple papers on certain topics. In order to go in depth on the topic and understanding both point of views, we had to locate information. By locating information, it provided a better understanding on the topic. In English 090 we wrote multiple papers and, we learned that we had to get reliable sources. In this English class I feel as though I revisit some of the topics, while going in depth and advancing

The reason why because my future job skills requires a lot of researching. My future job is becoming a paralegal and in that field, we must research different cases and IRAC them. Meaning write out the issue, reasoning, answer and conclusion. This is similar to a format, this is basically a format to brief a case. Revisiting different formats and what they require makes me want to brush up different law formats. The reason why because like writing there are different formats for law. English, they have APA and MLA and many more and for law there are different ways to brief a case by IRAC or writing it as a memo. When I transfer to Wilmington University this will help me when I advance in other English classes. The reason why because not only did I already know information on it, but the professor went into depth with different things. She went in depth with it on a college level, so when it’s time to transfer I’ll be ready to write multiple

The quote "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn" by Benjamin Franklin tells me that by just telling me without showing me will not let me learn anything. I agree with this quote because when a teacher or someone tells me something about an assignment or homework I will eventually forget about it but if some one teach it to me step by step and I write it down will let me remember. By writing down the notes that the teachers wrote down step by step and write it my own understanding will make me understand more about the lesson because who understands my writing more than myself.…

My revision of “Face it, America!” that follows this cover letter reflects what I have learned in English 1021 so far. While revising this essay, I learned when to use present tense in my writing and past tense in my writing when appropriate. In this class, I have learned to use more transitions and appropriate transitions in my writing. What new ideas I have been learning in English 111 so far is how to the use rhetorical devices more in writing my papers, and notices them as well when reading. I always know what ethos, logos, and pathos were be I never try to identify them in my papers of in articles, textual artifacts or in media. So I enjoy learning about that so far. I think the challenges I am facing in this class is how to more into depth when explaining a quote, passage, and paragraph when I find the rhetorical devices in this in why the author say what they use and use certain words as they do, I think that can help is to may identify what kind of questions I should ask myself more when I’m trying to analysis my paragraphs. I think that would help me out tremendously,…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…

Writing has proven to be a very serious struggle in my academic journey as a whole. I struggle with naturally choosing to write how I speak, and in an academic setting this proves to be very harmful to my grade. This un-academic style of writing cause me to make a 2 on the AP English exam when, if I would have simply taken my time and chosen to write more scholarly, I could have scored a far better grade on the exam and certainly would have been able to exempt English 1101. It is something I know I struggle with, yet I continue to do it. Furthermore, I believe enrolling in Professor Misty Soles English 1101 class truly helped shape my writing to a more collegiate standard.…

A writing experience that has stood out the most for me was when I was a sophomore in High School. There was a girl in my class who I wasn't so fond of who one day decided to announce to everyone that she had begun to write her own stories. She showed everyone pieces of her writings expecting to get nothing but compliments and be to deemed the class writer, but when she finally showed me her work I cringed at how deplorable it was. The stories had no clear perspective of whether it was written in first person or third person view, some of the simplest of words were spelled wrong, and many words were used in the wrong context. The class didn't seem to care for her stories so they just gave standard responses with no words for…
