A scene we all know very well, is the scene where the boy and the girl meet. When Chris Waters saw Edie for the first time he said, “Well, I just wanted to tell you you look very nice. I was so surprised when I looked in the door and saw you. Just because you looked so nice and beautiful.” After reading that, we all thought we knew what would happen next. Edie waits by the mailbox everyday until she finally realizes the letter is not coming. It is now close to the end of the short story and Edie has still not found a husband. You start to feel sorry for Edie and you are a little curious whether or not she'll find the one. This is when the dramatic irony takes place. The mailman developed the idea that Edie had been waiting everyday for him because she liked him. He finally asked her on a date. “So I said yes, and I went out with him for two years and he asked me to marry him, and we were engaged a year more while I got my things together, and then we did marry." This quote is very ironic to me. The title of the story is "How I Met My Husband," however this is all she says about her husband. The entire story is actually about her experience with her first love, Chris Waters. She remembers every detail of her and Chris’ life together, but she doesn't remember the movie her and her husband went to see on their first
