A day in the life
This week in class, I learned a multitude of new things including how to write this paper. Throughout my paper, we will explore all the new things I have learned through becoming a new college student, my first week of classes and reading the chapters from the introduction to psychology textbook.
The start of a new journey
Monday, November 21st was my first day as a new college student, I had no idea what to expect and living a little over forty-five minutes away, with class starting at six thirty, I thought I had better leave my house two hours early just in case traffic was bad. To my surprise, I arrived exactly forty-six minutes after leaving home, so I sat in my car and contemplated what the night was going to be like

Skinner says about behaviorism and I can see how it relates to parenting. Skinner believed that, “actions are controlled by rewards and punishments” (Coon & Mitterer, 2016, p. 26); the same goes along with authoritative parents who use, “management techniques which combine praise, recognition, approval, rules, reasoning and similar means of encouraging desirable behavior.” (Coon & Mitterer, 2016, p. 97). I think that this is a good way of getting a desired behavior. I think of elementary school with the different charts that they have to keep track of your bad or good behavior. For example, I remember way back to my days of first grade, we had a chart with different colored index cards that would go into a slot next to your name, if green was showing that meant that you had behaved and didn’t get into any type of trouble for that whole day, then behind the green was yellow, yellow was a warning, after your warning card was when you started to get into trouble. Red came next and that was fifteen minutes off of your recess time. No kid in the first grade wants to have to sit inside and do extra school work while their friends are all outside playing. After that, it kept getting worse and worse, blue came after red and that was a phone call home to your parents, then came purple which was a trip to see the principal. Throughout the week, the teacher would …show more content…
In regards to my hour drive to Keiser, I now am more confident in where I am driving to and can safely leave my house at a reasonable time without worry of being late, no need to continue to arrive forty-five minutes ahead of time, to sit and ponder my thoughts while wasting time, waiting for class to begin, instead I can stay home longer and work on my reading for the week or my paper writing.

Lee Canter is another theorist that came up with a behaviour model which is similar to Skinner's theory of operant conditioning. He came up with a model called the assertive discipline model that states five steps to assertive discipline. Step one adults should understand that they have an affect on children's behaviour. Step two is that adults such as parents, carer and practitioners should display assertive responses these means that they should be confident and self assured without showing aggressive behaviour. Step 3 is that parents, carers and practitioners should provide a clear discipline plan within the setting with rules and consequences.…

Every Life Matters I really only started understanding the meaning of abortion once one of my mom’s friends had one. Before that I had very little knowledge about abortion. My parents have always taught me to stand by what I believe and that others may have different beliefs. They always told me that I would meet people that would disagree with me and what I believe not only when it came to these kind of topics but many other things as well. Being told that, they told me to always respect people’s beliefs and their points of view because everyone has the right to stand by what they believe, just like I do.…

My whole life was altered the day I found out my parents were separating. They told me that I will have to attend a new, bigger school, where the total number of students was five times larger than my old school. That school, Edwardsville, was going to be a gigantic adjustment from my old school. This is story of how moving to Edwardsville changed my life. “You will be living with your Father and Grandmother for senior year,” my mother told me.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…

“They say that college is where you find yourself, but I feel more lost than ever.” Although this may be true, I began to think I was looking for something to blame. This quote replayed in my head, as I walked out of the counselor's office with both my parents along my side as I felt the vibe of their uncertainty with my decision to go back. Before it gets good, it gets more boring. Summer had started and it’s been a year since I’ve been to college.…

I was also relieved to discover that the class was very small and the teacher was not scary at all, unlike my prior belief.…
