Why Writing Is Important To Me Essay

Improved Essays

I feel in love! My teacher’s assistant Ms. Staples really changed my outlook on writing and made an impact on my life. She started off by showing me her personal work. The one I won’t forget was titled “My heart, soul, and tears.” Being the age that I was, I didn’t understand it that well, I just remembered it being about a few hard times in her life, like the time she was shot.
Ms. Staples really inspired me to start writing; I ended up writing a ton of small poems in my diary. To this day I still have them and it’s an absolute joy to go back and

Writing was my outlet to talk about how I felt but it didn’t help me to get past it. It wasn 't until I purchased the book “Battlefield of the mind”, by Joyce Meyer. I had no idea what this book was going to be about or if I would like it. I just woke up one day and decided I should get a book because it might possibly help me to stop thinking about the death of my grandma. I walked past the section called “motivation” at Barnes and Noble and thought to myself “well maybe I should read a book about motivation so I can get motivated to do something.” “Battlefield of the mind”, it stuck out a lot to me! After picking it up and looking at the cover, I assumed it was going to be a book about trying to remove negativity from your mind. Of course it was somewhat related to that, but it also included many aspects of getting over hard times in your life. In my case, it was losing my grandma. I didn’t know what to do, what to think, or how to react, it was really hard for me because the only thing I could think about was the fact that I didn’t get to say goodbye. After reading “Battlefield of the Mind”, it not only helped me get past the death of my grandma, but it also helped me get past difficult time in my life; whether it was school related or outside of school. My junior year was filled with a lot of stress all from my grandma passing away, applying to college, working, going to dance, and still maintaining my grades. It all held a lot of stress on

In the fall of 2012, my family was unexpectedly faced with tragedy after Thanksgiving Day. On the day after Thanksgiving, my Father’s wife suddenly died after suffering from an aggressive but unknown infection. This event caused grief and frustration to build up on the inside as I struggled to find an outlet for several years. Four years after the death, a teacher was able help me find an outlet through the means of creative writing. In my Creative Writing classes, pent-up emotions were released as I had become more open to them, especially during the poetry units.…

It all began with my mother reading the children’s poem Little Bunny Foo Foo to me. Back then I could not even understand what the poem was about. Although at the time I could not understand what my mother was reading to me, I slowly began to understand the words but not the meaning. The poem was a great bedtime story and also a great moral realization. The poem was about a bunny who went hopping through a forest and began to torment and harass field mice by bopping them on the head, then a fairy came down and warned the bunny if it continued it would have to punish him by turning him into a goon.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…
