How Drastically Changed My Life

Introduction There have been many experiences in my life that have drastically changed how I view the world and my place within society and relationships. The most dramatic change that has occurred in my life happened when I moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to attend graduate school. I was born and raised in Augusta, Georgia and lived there for twenty seven years. Augusta and the people in that town were the only life I knew before I decided to make a change and leave home for school. It was the scariest but best decision that I have made for my life so far. Moving to North Carolina changed my life in many ways but especially by getting me away from my comfort zone, increasing my independence, teaching me the value of friendship, and by giving me a greater respect for people who chose to take the more …show more content…
In Augusta, I was always ten minutes away from my parents and family. If anything went wrong, I could always call my family and they were there for me in a matter of minutes. My parents raised me to be independent, but I did not know the value of that until I moved to North Carolina. It was not until the first time my car did not start when I realized how dependent I was on my family to help me. In Augusta, if something was to happen with my vehicle I would just call my dad and he would give me a ride to the repair shop and loan me a car to borrow until mine was fixed. In Raleigh though, I did not have that option. I could not pick up the phone and call my parents, and I did not have anyone else to rely on for help here either. I had to figure it out myself, and quickly learned about UBER and all of its glory. Leaving my home and moving to a place where I knew no one presented me with the opportunity to be more independent and depend upon myself instead of anyone else. This has been the best aspect of moving that I have valued the most so
