How does an author reveal a character’s personality over time? Unwind is a book about a world in which children between the ages of thirteen and eighteen can be legally signed over by their parents or guardians to be “Unwound” which is basically getting their organs, tissue and blood harvested. This story takes place in the lives of three teenagers, Connor, Risa and Lev, who are all scheduled to be unwound at the same time. This essay will be about Lev and how he was raised as a “tithe” just to be unwound. In the first part of the story (Triplicate), Lev reflects on being a tithe and his family’s expectations of him “Being a tithe has always been a part of his life. His parents have spoken of it since he was a child, though back then he didn’t understand what they meant.” This tells us that Lev has been raised to be a tithe since he was young and extremely values what his parent’s expectations of him are. …show more content…
“Lev is not with the program”. He faces the wrong way, staring straight at the approaching cop car. “What, are you nuts?” Connor grabs his shoulder and forces him around.”” What this tells us is that Lev was so afraid of the cops that he froze and could not turn around. This could be seen as a fear or a flaw. A flaw because Lev was so scared of the cops that he ended up freezing up in front of them. But freezing up in a situation like this is a terrible flaw to have in the situation they are in currently. In conclusion, at the beginning of the story, Lev is guided by his religious beliefs. Even though he is tagging along with Connor and Risa, he still believes that he is meant to be a tithe. He also tends to be hesitant when things happen, but later in the story he develops and becomes completely
