The French Revolution is an important part of our history that will never be forgotten, there were many controversial events that took place in this historical timeline. The French Revolution was an attempt by the French to demolish Britain control and is also seen as a second Glorious Revolution by the Americans. There was extreme unnecessary violence that occurred during 1793 and 1794 that affected roughly 20,000 to 40,000 people that were killed by the guillotine during The Reign of Terror, including King Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette(King 's Wife), and even Robespierre. The government used extreme ways to achieve its ends, in which many ways were wrong and cruel. In fact, The Reign of Terror was not justified because: The methods of the disaster were too extreme, the peasants and lower class citizens were not treated as well as the clergy, and it took away the citizens freedom.…

Harvesting Native Americans: The Theme of Unwilling Sacrifice in “The Sin Eaters” Sherman Alexie’s “The Sin Eaters”, a short story found within The Toughest Indian in the World, tells the story of a young boy named Jonah and his presentiment dreams about war that ultimately come true. In this short story, Native Americans from all parts of the country are stripped from their reservations, bused to prison-like camps, and utilized against their will by the government. When reflecting on this text, I find a theme of unwarranted sacrifice to be prevalent throughout many points of the story. This idea of forced sacrifice ties into the overall message of Alexie’s “The Sin Eaters”, and strengthens the image of loss and pain that indigenous cultures have faced due to colonialism and the American government. The first part of the short story that I find the theme of sacrifice to clearly come into view is when Jonah and many other Native Americans are taken by military forces from their homes.…

Terror Management Theory and Self-Esteem: Effects on Psychopathology Terror Management Theory The terror management theory posits that people build character and culture to shield themselves from the potential for anxiety caused by the awareness of their mortality (Greenberg & Arndt, 2012). Humans fear death, and from that fear, “the urge for immortality becomes an underlying role in human behavior and their social psychology” (Greenberg & Arndt, 2012, p. 401). There are two notable features that humans have that yield to mortal terror: first, being a high degree of self-awareness and second, being the capacity to think in terms of past, present, and future (Greenberg & Arndt, 2012; Schimel, Landau & Hayes, 2008). Because of this capacity,…

When does the justified become the inexcusable? The Reign of Terror was a period in which the innocent people of France could be executed for having a controversial opinion from a government that prided itself on the natural rights it was offering these people. Murdering half a million to save a government structure that is supposed to be dependent on the people cannot be excused as a mere sacrifice to save the revolution. The revolutionary government that was presiding over France was going against the very ideals it stood for to save itself from counterrevolutionary revolts. The revolutionary government had become blind by fear of the monarchy so much so that an absolute monarch had already arisen, Maximlien Robespiere, who would send to…
