The Flag- The flag flying above the palace is changed by the flag sergeant depending on if the Queen is home or not. When the Queen is out the Union flag is flying. When the Queen is home the Royal Standard flies. The flag is changed by the Queen’s Flag Sergeant. This tradition did not start until 1997 when Diana, Princess of Wales, Died. People were outraged that a flag did not fly at half mast because a flag never was flown when the sovereign was not in the Palace. The Queen, seeing the displease, broke the previous tradition and had the Union Flag fly at half mast the day of the funeral.
The Balcony- The balcony is used for many public royal appearances. At the end of WWII King George VI and Winston Churchill were cheered on by thousands. The first appearance

He was also incharge of the Royal Mews, Carlton House Terrace, All Soul’s Church Langham Place, and the Haymarket Theatre. He was eventually resented by the people for his extravagant designs for George VI.
The Guests- Buckingham Palace receives around 50,000 people each year as guests of the Queen. They are invited to events such as banquets, lunches, dinners, garden parties, and receptions. At least three garden parties are hosted by the Queen each summer. Tea and other refreshments are handed out to guests.
The Queen’s Audience Room- The meetings between the Queen and the British Prime Minister take place in the Queen’s Audience Room. The meeting takes place once every week while both are in London. Many other powerful figures have meet with the Queen here.
The Royal Palace- Buckingham Palace was officially made the royal palace by Queen Victoria in 1837. Queen Victoria was the first monarch to live in the palace. When first moved in she found several issues which were later corrected for her convenience. There were not enough bedrooms or nurseries for future children, or for visiting
