From the wheel to the new iPhone, technology has changed immensely over the course of time. While the objective of most technologies hasn't changed, they have become more efficient, powerful, and reliable. For example, telephones, ever since they were invented by Alexander Bell in 1876, had the same purpose: help people communicate quickly. While this goal hasn't changed over the centuries, telephones have been upgraded from the simple, wired device of the 19th century to a modern, efficient device that can be carried anywhere, and can be used for a lot more that communication. Another example of technology changing over the years is progression of music devices. We no longer use big, bulky records on a phonograph, nor do we use a clunky Walkman.

The answer to this question is that as the human race evolved and discovered new things, they found ways to improve what they already have. Why would they want to change their already useful and functioning current technology? The reason we choose to work on developing our current technology is due to need to suit the constant change in society. For example, a war could be the reason for updating/inventing radios, or weapons, as well cause a shortage of materials, forcing us to adapt and use other materials to build stuff. We also change our technology because of smaller reasons, such as trends. This is the reason we choose to continue using mP3 players over cassette tapes or phonographs: they are simply better looking. Of course, in the 19th century to the early 20th century, the phonograph did suit the elegant lifestyle of the time period. Now however, we prefer cleaner, smoother, and more minimalistic technology, which is why leading companies, especially Apple, work on creating high-end technology while still making something good-looking. In other words, “marrying technology with art”. Other factors, such as higher demand, environment (electric cars are becoming increasingly more popular due to the fact that they produce less emission than fuel powered cars), and the public health (if something is proven not to safe for general use, then we will most likely stop using it), contribute to reasons why we constantly put time in developing and using the technology we
