Sound recording has changed tremendously since the 1800s. The history of Sound recording started with Edouard- Leon Scott, the inventor of the Phonoautograph. After the phonograph was invented, sound recording was adapted to allow both recording and reproducing. Many researchers have explored the possibility of using modern technology to reproduce Edison’s recordings. A small collection of original Phonautograph recordings dating from the post-phonograph period is located at the Edison National Historic Site. Due to their poor quality, a signal processing engineer commissioned by the IEEE History Center was unable to extract any sounds from them. In 2000, the world was introduced to iTunes and in 2001, everyone was introduced to the iPod. Today,
