How Has Reading And Writing Impacted My Life

Improved Essays
Throughout my life, reading and writing have been quite stressful, as I could never fully comprehend why these subjects were important. Likewise, reading and writing were my least favorite of subjects growing up until high school. Scared of high school; furthermore, terrified of how my English grade would be. Eventually, I would continue to find ways to improve my reading and writing skills; therefore, made myself less stressed and more enjoyable for what will become of my future for the next four years of my life. Having more confidence that I can write at a high level gave me an interest in the subjects. Despite this fact, I never found interest in these courses in my early schooling; indeed, I sparked significance for reading and writing as I matured.

What do you believe the best genre is for literacy? Well, I believe that fiction is the one that interest me the most. Three reasons why I think fiction has changed my perspective in literacy is the creativity, my brother, and the Hunger Games series. People might not like fiction because people don’t like stories that are just too crazy such as like Star Wars (which everyone does like even though it’s fiction). Fiction is something that can just be really fun to read/write because of the realness or story being filled with so much adrenaline.…

Growing up with reading and writing has always been a struggle for me. I would was get extra help on my reading and more time to practice than the other kids. I was not only a slow reader, but I also tended to skip over some of the words. I would never finish the text on the timed reading quizzes. I have had teachers, family, and friends striving and encouraging me not to give up on myself.…

Reading was something I was practically raised on as a child. My dad made sure that my younger sister and I were read to every single night before he tucked us in, passing down a tradition that he believed had aided in shaping his own childhood. I distinctly remember my simple mind roaming along in the lands of Narnia and Middle Earth as such books instilled in me a restless sense of adventure and a longing to learn. This longing drove me to read more and more on my own, all the while my father continued to read to me at a higher and more complex level, that at the time seemed unattainable. Yet books to me were journies completely separate from my own world and I could never seem to envision them as anything more than a source of entertainment.…

Every tap of the keyboard that meets my ears is a type of music that settles my soul. I’m not writing about a piece in particular, I’m writing about how the act of me writing has been such an amazing influence on my life. As a child with an alcoholic parent, I struggled to find a healthy outlet for my emotions. I’d tried running, drawing, painting, singing, playing an instrument, but to no avail, I could not find what could calm me. Finally one day my friend pointed me to a mediocre fanfiction site and I fell in love.…

When I was just a toddler, I remember having to sound out phrases, words, and sentences to develop my writing, reading and speech skills. My parents placed me in a private Christian school, Wesleyan Christian Academy, to assure that I was taught with the foundations and morals of Christianity. Wesleyan encouraged nightly readings for all the children to develop educated kids, and to expand our knowledge. Being a stubborn child, I only read the books I thought were interesting. This was not a good habit of mine from the beginning, but it was how I enjoyed reading.…

Are reading and writing connected? People may have a different answer to that question, some can argue that throughout someones’ life reading and writing are both essential to be successful; while others believe that reading and writing are not necessary to be notable in what one can achieve in his or her lifetime, thus resulting in a different life choices according to one’s belief. Reading Memoir John Green, author of The Fault in Our Stars, stated,” Great books help you understand, and they help you feel understood.” Actually, reading books helps me to explore the world. When I was just a little girl, I loved reading fairy tales which brought me to many vicarious thrilling adventures, and when growing up, non-fiction books taught me how to become a good person. Besides that, reading has brought me to many various levels of emotions, such as joy, love, hate, fear, and sorrow. Some stories not only make me feel euphoric with happy endings, but they also make me feel despondent when a character’s deep sorrow touched my heart.…

From the Mesopotamian civilization to the present day civilization, writing has taken a place of importance in our daily lives; something I have always struggled with. Through school the most difficult subject that I have always struggled with is English. Growing up my first language was Spanish due to the fact that my parents do know much English. My parents were never able to read to me in English preventing me from hearing and seeing the English language; it was not until I entered elementary school that I was exposed to English. This has contributed to my difficulties in English courses throughout my education.…

This new found passion was encouraged in middle school by my English teacher, Mrs. Somerville. Mrs. Somerville was one of the most amazing teachers I’ve ever had. She had a deep love for books just like my mother and was excellent at making recommendations. In her class, we didn’t just read, we also learned how to think more intensely about what we read, a skill that I have used everyday since. In Mrs. Somerville’s class we also developed our writing skills.…

Literature like many others things didn’t make much sense when I was young. I grew up in a country where literature seemed to be non-existent or just buried within heaps of school textbooks which forced a generation of Nepalese kids to put creativity in the shadows. However, moving to a country with such a rich literary past changed the story completely. Literature at first seemed foreign but once I started devouring books, it just became natural. For me literature bridged the gap between English and logic.…

Students going through the process of reading and writing have the essential capability of being able to use different approaches on how to successfully be ready for college level courses. Even though it is known that students can approach writing in a successful manner they are not taught how to take it as an advantage. High school students are told to read and write but they are not encouraged to use “Habits of Mind” where a student will lack the ability to fully engage in the assignment. With all the habits that a person possess such as curiosity, openness, engagement, creativity, persistence, responsibility, flexibility, and metacognition as stated in Framework for Success in Postsecondary Writing a student can take on most challenges…

There was not one thing individually that changed me. There were many different things some changed me in a negative way some in a positive way. When I wasn’t matured yet I didn’t really know who I was not like I didn’t know my name but I didn’t know who I wanted to be. Writing is a broad topic that may be defined through various definitions. An important way to look at writing is a “permanet” way to put your thoughts, ideas, and knowledge onto paper in a distinct number of ways. Those distinct ways may include text messaging, email, social media, or regular old paper. It’s at young age that children are initially taught the basic fundamentals of writing. As our live progress and we mature, our writing does as well.…

“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” -Charles William Elliot I find this quote to be fully true and I learned this important lesson about writing, reading, and literature when I was a freshman in high school, in one of the most feared classes there, Mr. Monsour 's biology class. Not many people are fond of reading and writing, especially as an assignment to be graded by the “destroyer of dreams and grades.” The typical reading and writing assignment seems like it would not have a large impact on a student, but to me it caused a change in heart to reading and literature as well as helped me learn and relearn something about myself.…
