Intro
Racism, the prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race is a very touchy subject in the media today, as race is a very vague word with different meanings to different people and racism overall, can be many things. Race can be tied to a person’s origin, language, skin color, place of birth etc. and differs from place to place. For example, Americans view the country of Rwanda to have one race, but the 2 main groups, the Hutus and the Tutsi view themselves as two different races.
Racism still seems to be present in 2017 and ranges from a misconception due to a stereotype to the biggest authority in the United States deeming a large group of people as “rapists and criminals”. But how does racism start is the real question. Is it because of past experiences? Is it because someone is taught to think a certain way? Is it because someone has hate towards a single individual? Where does racism start? When a person is a child? Teenager? Young adult? And how does it start? Does it start by simply discriminating someone , avoiding someone, judging someone because of their race or primary language or does someone just wake up someday thinking “I really hate (blank)”. According to a 2015 CNN study, 66% of non-white americans see racism as a serious problem, while only 39% of white americans see it as a problem. Can this difference be due to the fact that minorities face racism more often than white people. The same study found that 53% of African americans have reported to be treated unfairly at work, while shopping, at restaurants or the movies, while seeking health care or in dealings with police, 36% of hispanics have reported the same thing and 15% of whites have experienced the same. This nation has to open its a big problem for everyone
