The atom was first thought about in 460 B.C by the Greek philosopher Democritus, he thought about it by asking the question: how many times can something be fold …show more content…
He discovered the electron through a series of experiments. The experiments were designed to study the nature of the electric discharge in a high-vacuum cathode ray tube. As thomson conducted the experiment he noticed some anomalies. He interpreted the anomalies as the evidence of smaller bodies that are far smaller than the atom. The discovery of the atom had drastic impacts on the world. The discovery led to a better understanding that electrons are important for the bonding of the atom. But arguably the most important aspect of the discovery of the electron had to be its involvement in how electronics function. Since electrons can stream through wires and circuits, creating currents of …show more content…
James worked alongside Rutherford when rutherford found the proton. James conducted an experiment in were the would fire the neutrons at a block of paraffin wax, which has a high concentration of hydrogen and is therefore rich in protons. In the experiment he discovered that some of the neutrons would be knocked out. James then took the opportunity to measure their energy. The discovery of the neutron made it possible for scientist to create their own experiment in were they would bombard elements. Eventually the elements would undergo fission a type of nuclear reaction. The neutron has also become a tool of pure research and has been used to understand the structure of
