The understanding of the atom and the purpose of the atom has changed a over the past couple of years. Today’s society understanding of the atom is completely different compared to the past years. Over the years the understanding of the atom has changed. Scientist have made breakthroughs that have discovered new things and use of the atom.Scientist like J.J Thomson, Ernest Rutherford, and James Chadwick have made it possible for other scientist to improve on their discoveries and change how the atom is seen as well see the impact of the different parts of the atom in our society.

He discovered the electron through a series of experiments. The experiments were designed to study the nature of the electric discharge in a high-vacuum cathode ray tube. As thomson conducted the experiment he noticed some anomalies. He interpreted the anomalies as the evidence of smaller bodies that are far smaller than the atom. The discovery of the atom had drastic impacts on the world. The discovery led to a better understanding that electrons are important for the bonding of the atom. But arguably the most important aspect of the discovery of the electron had to be its involvement in how electronics function. James worked alongside Rutherford when rutherford found the proton. James conducted an experiment in were the would fire the neutrons at a block of paraffin wax, which has a high concentration of hydrogen and is therefore rich in protons. In the experiment he discovered that some of the neutrons would be knocked out. James then took the opportunity to measure their energy. The discovery of the neutron made it possible for scientist to create their own experiment in were they would bombard elements.
