What is literature? Literature is a word used to describe written and spoken poetry that represents many traditions and cultures all over the world. Which came from the Latin word "litteratura" meaning writing formed with letters. It is difficult to accurately define Literature, due to the fact that over the years the different types of literature have changed constantly. Many authors have created new work that adapt to society and the time period. This term usually refers to creative masterpieces like poetry, cartoons, speeches, photographs, journalism, drama, songs and etc. Literature is not just putting words on a sheet of paper or doodling figures, it must have meaning or inspire the audience.

This piece of literature changed the world for the better in a noticeable way. Which eventually made the world a more equal place. The speech is important because it brought more attention to the Civils Right Movement. It was reprinted in newspapers and magazines all over the United States to get everyone's attention. This made the Congress move faster on passing the Civil Rights Act. Many looks at the speech as an inspiring and encouraging piece of literature. That taught individuals how to stand up for their rights. The negative comments and actions did not stop King from accomplishing his goal which was gathering people together of color and white also to be treated equally. This is where literature comes in, one who thought the civil right movement was stirring up unnecessary trouble, thinking whites would not change for the better, and racism is a part of the culture, and it will never change. Those people had a different understanding of the speech and why it must be a change.

Dr. King believed that being silent about important matters is not going to make it better it will only get worst. Standing up for what you believe in will open many doors.
