Sports have always been a second nature to me; I’ve always excelled since I first began. My first love had to be the great game of football. Being my extracurricular activity of choice, I believed it gave me the sense of family away from home. My coaches became the father figures I was missing in life and my teammates became my brothers. For anyone who’s involved in an extracurricular activity like football would agree. Being around such activities has impacted my life a great deal.

While growing up, sports have always been a big part of my life. At the age of only six years old, my parents first signed me up for coach pitch softball. Little did they know that I was going to fall in love with the game and that they were going to have to spend countless hours at softball fields during the spring each year watching me play. The moment you decide that you want to play the game of football, your life changes forever. At least mine did from the first time I strapped on my pads. I think Vince Lombardi reflected the essence of football in a small collection of words, “people who work together will win, whether it be against complex football defenses, or the problems of modern society.” The biggest part of the game is teamwork, a concept that I was introduced to early on, but we’ll get to that later. The first time I strapped on pads was in the hot August sun at 12 years old.…

Football pushed students to excel and become self disciplined. Children learn how to practice on their own and tricks to improve. Children also are more respectful of adults because of the mentality of the coach to athlete relationship. Ultimately, football pushed young people to do better in school, become more self disciplined, and more well-rounded people, all of which will help them later in life.
