Conley defines culture as a set of beliefs, traditions, and practices; the sum of social categories and concepts we embrace in addition to beliefs, behaviors, and practices; everything but the natural environment around us. There are many reasons why culture can differ from one location to another; whether it be religion, ethnicity, geographical location, sexual orientation, personal beliefs, and values. On top of all these reasons culture has also changed with time. Over time there is both a social and moral shift that has contributed to the culture around the world.
In my opinion a major reason for this change is the media. The publics opinions are always changing depending on what the media favors, or what the media decides to fix on that week, month, or year. As time, has progress the media has also strengthened its hold on the minds of people because of the many advancements in technology. News, at one time, spread via a piece of paper and people read their local news, which effected their political opinions, changed the culture, ect. In the 1980’s you knew the big-name stars, read article, maybe saw an interview on late night talk shows and that’s all you really knew about their lives. In 2017 a total culture change happened, now we know celebrities every move. The culture shifted in America, we now have reality shows to “Keep up with the Kardashians” and watch shows where popular people fall in love and date. Completely different from 30 years ago. This shift is due to the advancements of the media. The media fixated on the rich and the famous and now every American knows who these people are and what they are doing. Yesterday I got 4 CNN updates, 3 were about president Trump and the fourth was that Beyoncé was pregnant with twins. Even one of the biggest media outlets in the world cares about a
