How Football Changed My Life

For the first 14 years of my life, I was a happy child who enjoyed sports and had few worries. Then one day in the summer, before freshman year, all that changed thanks to a camp in Jacksonville, a football camp recommended by my coaches. It was called FCA, Fellow Christian Athletes. Let me tell you first off, I was not at all the same person after this camp. For one thing, I was totally ignorant to any understanding of the bible and to what was really important. I assumed I knew all about it and that’s all I needed to know. Second, I figured winning and succeeding was everything, not because of the way my family raised me, but because I didn’t know what else to play for. I am writing about this event for the sole reason that it changed the way I lived my life forever. Now that all of that is out of the way, I will continue with my story. …show more content…
My mom and I got there as we meet two camp leaders who were very nice. They carried my bags into dorms and they were very polite. As I walked into the large lobby of the building all the camp leaders clapped and cheered every time a camper walked in. The reason I went to the camp was for football, not for christianity. I went hoping to come out a better football player, not a better christian. It was especially weird to me because when I signed in they gave me a gray FCA t-shirt, a FCA bible, a lantern for our keys, and a notebook with our schedule and extra paper. I also didn’t know that we were put into groups of about 10 people and each group had 1-2 camp leaders. My group met in the hallway and we began to walk to the
