Ways in which a leader's perception of a follower influences their relationship:

Leadership is all about leading a team and influencing the members. The way the leader influences the followers and vice versa largely affects their relationship in the long run and influence the quality of their relationship. Let us discuss in detail:
When the followers tend to perceive and believe leader as trustworthy and reliable, competent and dependable, this works for the best for their relationship. A positive relationship develops when a leader is perceived of very high value in the eyes of the followers. Similarly, when the identities of both leader and member are individual and no one tries to overtake other, this again creates a very positive relationship between them.

In other words, if the leader belongs to a very influential and powerful position, then the follower might perceive him with awe that respects out of fear and will try to always oblige him and work as per his guidelines to play a safer game. Thus, they will have a very professional and formal relationship due to leader's power position.
If a follower's perception of the leader is someone who posses' very strong skill or aptitude that gives him an added advantage over others in the group then he is again going to respect the leader for the same. In other words, if a leader masters in some of the skills like working on the computer or mastering the quality of public speaking etc. then the follower might perceive him of high value and will respect his qualities and try to imitate the same.
