POLICE FORCE
Local Police Departments are a law enforcement agency that is a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce law, protect property, and limit civil disorder. Police Departments play a major role in keeping the community safely and civilly organized. Your Local Police departments provide services and respond to calls of many different situations that one should pray they may never have to call for. They are the protectors of your local community and the ones whose priority is to be the one who keep you, your family and your neighbors safe around the clock. First one must take a civil service exam scoring a grade of 70 or higher. Once they pass the exam they will in time be called for continued processing which consist of a medical exam, a written and oral psychological exam, a background investigation, and a physical test. Once they have passed all those there is a final mini medical which one will also be drug tested and reevaluated to make sure they fit criteria. At the age of appointment one must be 21 years of age, obtain a valid driver’s license, a high school diploma, GED or higher, and have 20/20 eye vision with glasses or contacts. As I mentioned earlier the Officer is choosing on a daily basis to risk their lives to protect yours. Not only are they choosing to risk it for themselves but some are risking their life at the cost of a loved one losing them, a daughter or son losing a father or mother, a husband or wife losing their significant other. They are not the only ones who are affected by the duties on an officer. Certain situations that they face can lead to major stress and anxiety. Certain Police stresses are effects on the body due to stress. They are not always prepared for physical exertion and to face adrenaline overdrive. Many Officers will face external stressors which are out of their control. There is also organizational stress that results from the job in itself, such as working the midnight shifts and or feeling incompetent and that one is not successful at their job. There is stress from dealing with society which can be referred to as operational stress, and there is their own personal stress which is the stresses of life that you and I and the next person may face on a daily basis. The average life expectancy of an officer is the age approximately 60 years old. The duties of an officer can be severely dangerous, but also overwhelming. Approximately 125-150 Police Officers commit suicide a year. For 2009 the Police Suicide rate was 141 throughout
