Drunk driving affects people in the United States every single day. Intoxicated driving leads to more problems every day americans have to cope with. Drunk driving has various consequences, causes personal as well as state expenses and also generate numerous health problems.
Firstly, “intoxicated driving can lead to temporary impounding of your vehicle, a fine of up to several thousand dollars, installation of an ignition lock that prevents your car from starting if you've been drinking, probation, possible jail time, revocation of your driver's license, community service, completion of substance abuse classes at your own expense, and possibly even worse if a death is involved or substantial damage to someone's property” ("Legal …show more content…
“Being drunk affects driving by causing impaired vision, reduced reaction times, reduced concentration and vigilance, feeling more relaxed and drowsy which may cause a driver to fall asleep at the wheel, difficulty in understanding sensory information, difficulty doing several tasks at once (e.g. keep in the lane and in the right direction, while concentrating on other traffic), failure to obey road rules” (“How Does Alcohol…”). This increases the difficulty of driving making it hard to do simple things which increases the chance of wrecks. Which then leads to the consequences and expenses associated with drunk driving. “A person who has been drinking alcohol may think that if they are especially careful, they will be able to drive safely. However, the alcohol may have affected their view and experience of reality. Their actions and responses may be quite different to what is actually needed, but they may be unaware of how much their driving skills have been affected” (“How Does Alcohol…”). Basically some drunk drivers believe they can drive, but really they cannot. This will not be realized until a wreck occurs or they are pulled over. Once a wreck occurs it sets off a chain of events like jail time, medical care and the many
