How Does Your Identity As A Parent Influence Me

Decent Essays
I would say that my identity as a parent influences the way I interact with others. When I was younger I had to raise my younger siblings, and because of this I matured more quickly than those my own age and often found myself befriending the older kids or adults. In high school I constantly worried all the time about my siblings and my friends didn’t understand how much responsibility I had so I was viewed as the buzz kill of the group; whereas when I was with my older friends or adults they fully understood my situation. When I find myself interacting with people who are different to me I think that my identity as a parent influences me by making me patient and observant of the person. I generally try to see what it is that interests them

In Harlen Coben's The Undercover Parent, Coben argues in favor of spyware being applied to the computers of children. He claims that spyware will allow the parent to protect the child from himself/herself as the parent will be able to see every keystroke that the child makes. In doing so, the parents would be able to protect their children from tragic events such as, the author mentions, "gambling away their entire life savings" or having a child being "cyber bullied until the point where she committed suicide". According to Coben, spyware on computers would, in fact, help to prevent situations such as these. Although Coben mentioned many points, he fails to include several factors in his argument.…

The article discusses how Russians are more family-oriented than Americans when it comes to caretaking; Russian grandparents are important in their society whereas babysitters that are not related to the family are much more popular in America. In addition, the American, middle-class, suburban neighborhoods are unfamiliar to Russians, as many grew up in densely populated neighborhoods. All of these societal differences relate to upbringing of children and their development of adolescents, as environments play an important role as well as brain changes in adolescence. I think that children who are raised by their family develop a deeper connection with them than those who had babysitters or went to childcare centers, especially in adolescence.…
