One of my quirkiest traits―and a consistent topic of laughter amongst my friends―is my ever-present and never-fading habit of texting with perfect grammar. I currently live in a small beach town right outside of Jupiter, Florida known as Hobe Sound. It’s a “drive by town” as I would describe it. What writing means to me and why I prefer to shy away from it, until now. Being an Adult Learner, having been out of school for more than 30 years my weaknesses outweigh my strengths. My greatest weakness in writing, I would have to say is my spelling and use of grammar. I have recently been diagnosed with a slight learning disability which explains my problems with spelling and grammar. Writing is an art; we create our thoughts in your mind and express it on paper. Once we start writing we keep getting new ideas and when we re-read what we wrote, sometimes it might surprise us. Writing has impacted my life and allowed me to look at books differently. To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was.
