One reason why the tiger is a powerful creature because of the way the poet uses imagery to describe it. Blake states, “Tyger! Tyger! burning bright/ In the forests of the night” (1-2) to describe the tiger fur. However, Blake compare the tiger’s fur to fire. Fire is known as a powerful element that can be easily controlled; however, fire is also the most dangerous and can cause lots of chaos. From this Blake implies that tiger is creature that is powerful and cause an unknown amount of destruction. The tiger is also describe as a fear creature. Blake uses the lines “What the hammer? what the chain?/ In what furnace was thy brain?/ What the anvil? what dread grasp/ Dare its deadly terrors clasp?” to symbolize the creator of the tiger is creating an armor or a weapon or even possibly both. But why would the creator need to make weapon that is also well protected? Apparently the creator was at war with some group. The lines, “When the stars threw down their spears/ And watered heaven with their tears” (Blake, lines 17-18) symbolize that the group attacked the tiger; however, surrendered later after the battle had begun.
