He is showing that the wind is so wild and crazy it helped him get out of where he is from to use his power in bad ways. This example relates to the theme because he is still using his power from the bad and he is getting his revenge on his enemies. Personifications allow the reader to give human qualities to nonhuman things, so they are able to infer what's going on in the story. Villefort was eventually left lonely without any family, friends, or will to live. “He tried to run after Monte Cristo, but, as in a nightmare, he felt his feet rooted to the floor; his eyes seemed ready to burst from their sockets; his fingers sank into his chest until they were red with blood; his veins of his temples swelled and seemed to deluge his brain with fire” (Dumas 486). Villefort was being destroyed by all of the revenge placed upon him. He was so angry and upset that he was going crazy, his eyes looked as if they were popping out, he pushed his fingers into his chest so far they were bleeding, and he temples where swelling. Villefort abused his power and he was left with no family, no power, and no will to live. Personifications helped the reader infer and understand what villefort was doing.
