In the novel, The Things They Carried, we are told stories of the Vietnam War through our narrator and protganoist Tim O’Brien. O’Brien was a 21 year old during the time of the war and was very conflicted of his decision if he should go to war or flee the country. Despite his morals to not go to war he gives in because he is afraid of what his family and hometown will think of him. In Vietnam he becomes a solider and ultimately a different person making harsh decisions that benefit himself and his group.
