Burton uses diegetic and a lot of nondiegetic sound to represent certain points in his films. Such as in Big Fish when the father was telling stories to his son there was always different types of music and sound that went along with the feel of that exact story. An example of diegetic sound is in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory when everyone was standing by the chocolate river and the the oompa loompas started to sing their song, everytime a child misbehaved the oompa loompas would sing a song about the that certain child. That is diegetic because the characters can actually that sound and music. An example of non diegetic is in Edward Scissorhands when all of the husbands were leaving for work the music playing was an out of screen soundtrack the characters could not hear that music at the time it was more of an upbeat faster pace music to show that the men were in a rush to get their day started. Tim Burton also uses certain types of song and sound for different scenes, for example in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory when Charlie won the golden ticket and showed his grandpa the grandpa started to yell and cheer in joy, as this was going on happy upbeat tunes were playing showing the audience that their hope was still there and how happy they were that the thing that they wanted the most was finally in their
