How Does Thomas Grow Up In The Maze

In the story, there is a boy named Thomas, who wakes up in a dark elevator. To his surprise a bunch of teenagers rescue him from the elevator and welcome him to a place called the glade. In the story Thomas is the main character. When he gets out of the elevator he has no recollection of what had happened and why he randomly showed up there. All he knows is that his name is Thomas. Once he comes to the reality that this is actually happening, he looks around and sees that he is surrounded by about fifty teenage boys. He also notices that he is in this huge open space surrounded by hundred-foot-tall walls made of stone. Grievers are mechanical creatures that are very violent towards people. Tom also learns that the elevator that he showed up and delivers a new person every month on the same day. For some odd reason on the very next day after Thomas a ride a girl showed up in the elevator in a coma. When the girl wakes up from a coma she says that her name is Teresa and tells Thomas that the maze is a code. They realize that they must solve the code to escape the maze. There are people called runners to go into the maze to try to figure out a way to get out and they create maps as they do so. Thomas looked at the Maps that the runners had created and figured out that the maze walls spell out the words “Float Catch Bleed Death Stiff Push” (290). After receiving this code Thomas purposely get stung by a griever so that he can understand what the code means. After he recovers from the sting he realizes that the must go to the bottom of the cliff and enter the words to escape the maze. When they get to the cliff to enter the code there are Grievers waiting for them, so they must get by the grievers to be able to enter the code.
