This photo was used in assignment 9: Independent Project- landscape. Nearing an end to my landscape project, I was looking back through my photos that I had already taken and found four strong ones but could not find a fifth (five was the required number of photos) to my liking. My goal was to keep consistence with where the images were taken and at the time I was on vacation in Florida. The photo itself was taken at Disney Springs outlet mall, on our last day in Orlando. taken as complete accident, my family and I were walking back to the car from dinner and we came across this beautiful view of the surrounding lake with the setting sun in the background.…
The landscape surrounding the Administration Building at Bijagual is also fragmented, but not as severely as the Osa. The patches of forested land are generally larger and more abundant in Bijagual than in the Osa. However, there are still small patches of fragmented land surrounded by open pasture. The monkey populations here would face the same health threats as the isolated populations in the Osa, but not the same sever scale.…
In the scene we can also see the many trees dotted around the landscape, and a large cliff-face next to the trail, there is large but somewhat obstructed sky, and mountains…
To the right of the main tents is a wooden structure: a single wooden beam held up by tripod-like legs on each size. In front of the construction (nearer the viewer) is another small white awning, and even nearer are more people, obstructing the lower view of the wooden structure. The far background is dominated by green foliage.…
In late 2015, scientists found that the best borrowers are not, in fact, the characters of the 1997 movie, but microscopic animals called water bears. Water bears, more specifically named tardigrades, are found to have scavenged about 17.5% of their genes from other creatures. This ability to obtain used genes from other creatures’ discarded DNA is found to let tardigrades undergo extreme stress. And not just homework stress.…
This differs from Western paintings. I think it is a good depiction of a landscape through mist. The peaks poking through the clouds give a perspective of distance. Japanese artists use their imaginations to paint interpretations of nature. Western artists rely on shapes, colors, lights, and shadows to convey a scene.…
What category of art does this fall under? How can you tell? Nocturne in Grey and Gold: Canal, Holland falls under the category of a watercolor painting which is the use of pigments suspended in water and or gum arabic in order to create a sense of a dampened paper. This use of watercolor is obvious because of the detail shown in the painting.…
Wisconsin Deer Stand The smell in the woods, the sounds of the trees as the wind blows through them. Ahead a steep ridge is filled with oaks, maples and elms. That have changed color already and their leaves are starting to fall. As they fall they hit other leaves going crunch.…
The young little polar bear followed his mother towards the cool Ocean, delighting as he stepped into it. It was the first time that he had ever touched water. He splashed around, his instincts telling him exactly what to do, how to swim. This is the beginning of a polar bear's life, after a few weeks of nursing and nourishment. The mother will teach him how to get his meals (mostly seals), and all the other things necessary for survival.…
According to the Cambridge University Press, the definition of ruin is “to spoil or destroy something” (Cambridge Dictionary, 2017). Joseph Mallord William Turner’s oil painting The Fall of an Avalanche in The Grisons, and Robert Smithson’s installation piece Partially Buried Woodshed, both recreate and capture the act of ruin through different techniques, imagery and medium. Turner’s piece captures the act of an avalanche through a static depiction of the moment before the destruction of a wooden cabin. This work is an example of an accidental ruin and could be considered a before shot of the destruction, making Smithson’s work the after shot.…
The sun light shown through the leaves of the forest onto the trail, the dirt on the forest floor was damp from the last days rain, roots of the trees raised from the grown like long bony fingers, the bushes that lined the trail were bright green, filled with green insects and thornes. The sound of the lake and dam grew louder as we approached the start of the trail. Holes in the middle of the trail forced us to take an alternate route into the forest. The bamboo was closely packed together making it hard to get through. After sliding in the mud and struggling to get the bikes through the stalks, we had reached the trail.…
A story. What is the definition of a story? Characterized as an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment, this may be the legal definition of story. Nonetheless, there is so much more to it than just the physical words that are made up to define it. Similarly, this image may seem pretty self explanatory, however, when one digs below the surface of the original image, there is a deeper meaning, purpose, and point.…
When you’re born and raised on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, you don’t get to experience all four seasons like, colorful fall leaves, thick white snow, and blooming flowers. However, on a small island the one advantage you have is being able to watch the sunrise in the east and watch the sunset on the west all in one day. Having the ability to watch the sunrise and sunset as a child all the way up until now I have grown an obsession with nature. I love to watch the sunrise and sunset because every single one has been different from another. The way the colors flow together, they create an almost surreal picture that really pops at your eyes.…
White provides descriptive details on what is going on with the lake, the electrical disturbance and a curious darkening of the sky was a familiar experience that E.B. White experienced when he was a child. “Then the kettle drum, then the snare, then the bass drum and cymbals, then crackling light against the dark, and the gods grinning and licking their chops in the hills.” Is a metaphor that describes the sound the darkening sky is creating. Then it became calm and the rain was steadily rustling in the calm lake. “As he buckled the swollen belt suddenly my groin felt the chill of death.”, this quote is a symbolic reference of rebirth.…
Blood sucker, dead, predator: These are all words that can describe a vampire. There have been several vampire stories throughout the years. Each author takes and gives them different characteristics but they usually are universally described as a creature that was once human that somehow has returned from the dead and preys on living humans by drinking their blood to stay alive. Dr. John William Polidori, an English writer and physician, is said to have created the first written vampire story in his short story The Vampyre: A Tale.…
