In a previous study it was talked about the fact that gender roles do in fact play a role in helping behavior. Males are seen to help the person in trouble more than a women because of the gender rules that that’s what a male should do. Males are seen to be the heroes and should come to the rescue of anyone but especially when they are female (Shnabel, Bar-Anan, Kende, Bareket, & Lazar, 2016). Males are seen to help females more especially when it comes to the type of help they need (Shnabel et al., 2016). Another study talked about the fact that role performance plays a role into whether or not someone is will to help another individual out. Role performance plays into males helping out more, especially when it comes to helping a female in trouble (Schwartz, Keyl, Marcum, & Bode, 2009). I think that there needs to be more studies done on the reasoning behind why in fact more females were helped over them males. Also the fact that why in fact when both the male and the female confederates were injured, why in fact that females were in fact helped more often than the males. Helping behavior needs to be looked at and studied in greater perspective while specifically looking at gender. The role that gender plays on the helper as well as the helped.
