The Effects of Television on American Culture Some might say that television has been one of the biggest impacts of the American Cultures. It was invented to be able to supply people with an immeasurable amount of information such as news and entertainment, which is being transported into homes every day. Television can become habitual and have effects which can change the way people live and react to life situations. The majority of children and young adults watch as much as 4-5 hours of TV a day, which influences their lives in many different ways. With a complete different lifestyle in force, children now no longer walked to and from school. After school activities such as playing outside and working on your family’s land had been replaced with the great technology of television. Healthy food and exercise had taken a side seat to the American lifestyle due to families being busier than ever. With the fact that exercise and healthy eating was no longer a normal routine in most people’s life, childhood obesity took its toll on our youth. In the past 30 years childhood obesity has grown, and our young people’s health as took a turn for the worse. With the excess body fat, children are more prone to get illness related to cardiovascular diseases. Children who are obese and have health problems are more than likely to grow into adults with health issues and concerns as well. These illnesses may include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, bone and joint problems, sleep apnea and more.
