In “The Pearl,” the doctor relates to the quote“Things are not always what they seem,” because of the terrible things that he to affect Kino’s family which was an attempt to obtain the pearl. In the folk tale, Kino has a wife named Juana, and a son named Coyotito. One night as Coyotito was sleeping he was stung by a scorpion. Juana and Kino decide to travel to the doctor to heal Coyotito. The doctor denies family because they did not have sufficient funds to pay for the doctor. Kino decides to dive for oysters to get more money to pay for the doctor and he finds the pearl.
