How Does Teratogens Affect A Fetus

I didn't know what the correct term was for things that could cause harm to a fetus until now.Which are called teratogens; my thoughts before reading this chapter was that a woman shouldn't introduce any teratogens to her fetus at any point during her pregnancy.I assumed that it didn't matter what trimester the mother was in she would still cause hard to the fetus. I learned that teratogens affect a fetus differently from one trimester to the next. Each trimester could cause different abnormalities in the fetus. I found this chapter very

Fetal Abuse and Teratogens After reading the article about the possible legal ramifications for prenatal abuse, and teratogens in the book, I can see both sides of the argument. The concept behind DeJesus ' prosecution is often referred to as "fetal rights": the notion that unborn babies deserve the same legal protections as children (“Fetal Abuse”). Multiple women have been charged and went to jail for taking drugs while pregnant and giving birth to babies who test positive for the drug. From the outside looking in, it seems to me that any pregnant woman would avoid any possible teratogen, especially drugs. Women could justly be prosecuted for intentially doing illegal drugs while pregnant;regardless of whether or not the child is born…

Drinking alcohol can be no joke when knowing a person is pregnant. A teratogen is a drug or other substance capable of interfering with the development of an embryo fetus that may lead to birth defects or developmental malformations [1]. It could be very useful when someone has consumed alcohol while pregnant. Now, if I were to have seen someone consume alcohol and smoking a cigarette at a bar, seeing that they are a couple months pregnant, I would walk up to her and tell her my concerns. Since she smiled at me, I would walk over to her and start small talk.…

However, the effects of these stimuli can be reversed (Feldman, R.S., 2015, p. 96). The treatment of this infant may be different in the personal household than in public. The mother’s use of teratogens, or harmful substances that may cause birth defects, whether or not they are visible is crucial in the health of this infant (Feldman, R.S., 2015, p. 63). During this time, it is also important for the infant to create a trusting relationship with the caregiver.…

In 2003, Pilitteri described that teratogens have been considered to have negative impact on both the foetus and the mother during pregnancy. Meanwhile, the pregnant women who are exposed to high levels of teratogens during the foetus development stages can increase the risk of causing physical or mental abnormalities in a baby (Yaffe & Aranda, 2010). Therefore, the effects of teratogen on a foetus development are permanent and irreversible (Yaffe & Aranda, 2010). Although there are many different teratogens around us and can cause birth defects, only alcohol and tobacco will be explained and discussed in the following…

Alcohol has been a topic of controversy not only in the United States, but in the entire world since its origination. The reason, of course, is due to the effects alcohol has on the human body when too much is consumed. In the United States, issues relating to alcohol can obviously be tied back to the time of the Prohibition, which lasted an entire decade, starting at the beginning of the 1920s. The idea behind illegalizing alcohol at the time was aimed towards curbing negative social behaviors such as alcoholism, drug abuse, gambling, and domestic violence.1 Obviously, for an entire country to pass a law banning the sale and consumption of alcohol, people were aware of the negative effects of alcohol. Although people were aware of the negative…
