Technology is changing the way humans communicate in a negative way. Ever since the rise of social media and the ability to email and text, it is obvious that social interaction is slowly decreasing. It seems that most people are more comfortable with sending a quick text or email than calling or talking face-to-face with a person. Since the majority of people in the society have access to technology, they also have easy access to social network accounts where they can fool people into thinking that they are someone they are not. In other words, people are not being honest in terms of who they really are. Although technology has brought positive aspects, there are also negative impacts. One student who attended George Mason University said that he and his friends believe that most people text others to ask if they can call them. Whenever people are texting one another, there tends to be some sort of miscommunication. Due to these miss interpretations, there are unnecessary drama and friendship/relationship problems going on. In an article titled “Does cell phone use really affect our communication skills?” written by Erin Stewart, Stewart uses the example of two friends in an argument to show how there can be a lot of misinterpretations through text. She gives an example of two friends who continue to argue through text message because they both interpret each other’s messages as rude. Stewart states that “face-to-face communication among children and teenagers is being squashed out by social networks.” This is a true statement because now people rely so much on their technology. They see texting and facebook messaging as the preferable way to communicate ignoring the fact they are slowly losing their interpersonal skills. Instead of focusing on what is happening in that moment, some are either texting or trying to contact others. Not only do people lose focus while being a certain events, people lose focus while driving. Because of the use of cell phones while driving, there has been many accidents and have caused many people to become injured. With the presence of technology it is difficult to avoid using cell phones. According to a British newspaper in March 2009, investigators discovered people lie in order to receive financial benefits from the government. It was also found that there are people who claim that they are single and living alone, are actually married and living with other people. Another study was done at the University of Western Sydney in 2002 in regards to how honest people are when they communicate with strangers via online chat rooms. 320 people were surveyed and the results showed that there is a higher chance that men will lie to women about how much money they make. On the other hand, women would lie for safety reasons. When it comes to online dating, most people tend to lie about their physical appearance and even their age. The article validates the argument
