According to studies, the answer is yes. It can affect a child's mental and emotional development in both minor and major ways. In some ways it could just mean that you child has less reaction to social cue and be a bit more socially awkward. All the way to your child being at major risk of things like depression. It can affect them most when they learn to talk to people face to face. Kids who go on to use screens for most of the lives have a harder time learning how to talk to people face to face. They are used to being able to say any and everything to another person over the internet. “They could be less self aware and have less empathy and less social skills face to face with another being” (Ramasubbu). “Even though there is a place for offline learning and only being able to learn some things by actually doing things and witnessing them in real life, kids are smarter than ever” (Agrawal). Now kids can look up books online getting more information than ever. Before you would have to spend time at a library and search and search for maybe 1 or 2 books that briefly mention the thing you need to know more about, or it’s on the thing you want to know, but the book itself doesn’t have what you need exactly. Now you can look up exactly what you want and or need and millions of different websites come up in a fraction of a second. Now even though most of them aren’t that reliable, you will still be able to find what you need and a lot more from very very reliable sources. Many kids now are prodiges, being able to look up things and learn what they want when they want. The internet allows teaching and learning to be more efficient than it ever has
