How Does Stargirl Influence Me

Decent Essays
The novel, Stargirl, has challenged me to rise up from the world of “them” and become someone not influenced by others. In the world of “them”, people look at me with false beliefs and degrade me because of my race. I used to let every action of “them” influence me. Then I came upon Stargirl, the main character of the novel.
She is the role model that I strive to become. She is an eccentric girl with a heart full of empathy. Even though she suffered from shunning at her high school because of her nonconformity, she did not let it affect her. Her boyfriend, who was also shunned but cared about it, coerced her to change. Stargirl disappeared and Susan, a “normal” girl, replaced her. Susan did not last long because Stargirl soon returned. Stargirl

She has an inspiring story. She put herself in a situation where she had to compete with hearing males when she is a Deaf female. She is an inspiration to deaf people because she never saw herself as limited. She has a happy, funny and joyful personality and she makes me happy and that's one thing I like about her, is that she goes through anything to make her viewers happy and to put a smile on our faces. I love how she took the hard road to conquer her fears. She did this to conquer her fear of being shy by becoming an actor and a stand up comedy writer and performer. This must have been hard for her as she jumped into it strate away instead of taking little steps to get there slowly. So I did what Rebel did and conquered my…

While reading Stargirl, I have noticed that I am similar to Leo in many different ways. We both are a little too worried about what others think about us. This said, we both try too hard to fit in. Sometimes, this trait influences some of our decisions. Leo obviously likes Stargirl, but doesn’t want anyone to know because he’s worried about what the rest of Mica High is going to think.…

I think I just fallen in love with Ms Hoover’s writing. Hopeless was a sad and beautiful story, my only regret is not read this book sooner. First of all, I have to be honest that at the beginning I was somewhat skeptical about this book. Given the heroine, Sky seem to have a loose moral, but that quickly changed when the story start rolling, and the quality of the writing also made a huge positive impact for the book. I absolutely adores Sky, I thought she was a bit socially awkward, since she was well-sheltered and home-schooled, until her next door neighbor/best friend Six talked to her to enrolled in public high school on her senior year.…

Susan Smith from the War That Saved My Life is my favorite literary protagonist because she worked hard to provide a good life for the children and she saved the kids from a life of danger, risked her own life for the kids, and wasn't the cookie cutter mold for an ideal person because her flaws were shown and how much she needed the kids just as much they needed her. Susan Smith is my favorite literary protagonist because she worked hard to provide a good life for the kids. Susan made a conscious effort to raise the children, even though she had no experience and had originally been forced into doing it. She used her money to buy the kids food and clothes and worked extremely hard to educate the kids, especially Ada because they refused to let her into school.…

In A Year of Impossible Goodbyes, Sookan begins as an imaginative girl who doesn't understand the propaganda hurled at her, but slowly morphs into a determined, confident young woman capable of thinking for herself. I can relate to Sookan because political propaganda is currently running rampant through the government, creating public turmoil and scepticism. In this story, Sookan learns the valuable lessons of responsibility, perseverance, and independence. Sookan learns these three through trial and error, hard work, and unfortunately, misfortune. When her mother was captured by the Russians as she tried to forge her way across the border, Sookan stepped up and began to care for her younger brother, Inchun, even though she…

Given the centrality of character in Shade 's Children by Garth Nix, it is no surprise that issues of identity are prominent themes in the novel. The adolescent psychological quest of discovering an identity is made a physical fact in this novel. The individual Change Talents highlight the uniqueness of the individual and provide a role for that individual within their team, while the inner struggle of the resistance leader Shade also highlights the struggle of identity, as Shade is an artificial intelligence that identifies himself as human and strives for a human body. As the leader of the resistance, Shade wants to put an end to the Overlords and return the world to normal, but by doing this, he would also destroy himself as he relies on The Change to exist, which creates a paradox for him.…

An unsettling self-consciousness of her weight and downplaying of her achievements early in life left her quite the humble girl, one who, despite her clear and obvious potential for breaking great ground in the community, functions much as one in the prime of her youth could be expected to. Though wise and venerable for her age, she still enjoys settling in for a binge of shows on Netflix, hanging around comic shops and bookstores for the latest good reads (when she isn't signing books herself, at least), and, as one might expect, a good swim. She's rather fond of fish and sweets, and has quite the appetite for someone who regularly skips meals by accident while planning her next lecture or dig site trip--a fact she'd rather you didn't bring up, thank you very much. And despite her touchiness, moodiness, and sometimes short temper regarding how skeptics view her in the workplace, she remains a sweet, charming woman who would readily give everything she is if it means helping someone in…

In the Novel Under A Cruel Star, Heda Margolius Kovaly sheds light on the repercussions of not only the German concentration camps in World War 2, but also shows how the War led to the adoption, practice, and repercussions of a hostile communist government. In this novel courage, not only in a power to survive, but in a power to provide for family, is the most prevalent issue brought about in Hedas retelling of her time in the concentration camps and her time as wife to a communist official. One of the most endearing facts about Heda in her retelling of her experiences is that fact how despite everything that she had observed, participated in, and been subjected to she still remained “human” in that she was not misguided by hate and anger but…
